Host Families Wanted!
The Host Family Program, a program supported by the Colchester Immigration
Partnership, matches International students studying at the NSAC
with a community host family, for one week duration upon arrival
in Truro (August 29-September 5). The host family program’s
function is to make the transition to Canadian culture easier for
the student as many of them are away from their home country for
the first time. The host family acts as a support to the student
by helping them get settled in the community. After the initial
one week stay has been completed, the Immigration Partnerships hopes
that both student and host will have created a bond and subsequently
remain in contact with each other and perhaps share holidays together
throughout the year.
Host Families are needed for the 2005-2006 academic
year. For more information, please contact: Creston Rudolph, Welcoming
Community Program Coordinator, Colchester Regional Development Agency

NSAC President Inducted into Canadian
Academy of Health Sciences
When
the President of the United States wants advice on a public health
issue, he calls the United States’ National Academies. When
the Prime Minister of Great Britain wants to seek similar counsel,
he usually turns to the Royal Society of Britain. But when the Prime
Minister of Canada wants similar advice, who does he call?
Well, that’s not always entirely clear, given
the more narrowly defined mandates of many Canadian organizations.
Now, however, owing to a recent initiative by a group of leading
health care leaders and researchers, the Prime Minister will be
able to call the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS)recently
created to:
1. Develop informed, strategic assessments on urgent
health issues;
2. Inform public policy on these issues;
3. Enhance Canada’s readiness to deal with global health issues;
and,
4. Provide a recognized and authoritative Canadian health science
voice internationally.
NSAC President, Dr. T. Philip Hicks has been elected
a Fellow of this prestigious organization, one of only 63 members
selected nationwide. Click

NSAC Open House 2005 A Success

Mailing Address Issues Continue
The Development and Alumni Relations Office continues
to have issues with the computer system that manages our mailing
addresses. While things have become much more stable, we have recently
run a procedure to clean up after the entry of information from
the Harris Alumni Directory Project. In the vast majority of cases
this has improved the accuracy of our information, however in a
small number of cases it has reverted the preferred address of various
alumni to an old address. Unfortunately, this seems to have occurred
mainly for those who have given us updates within the past few months
and for those alumni who have alumni parents who also listed them
during the Harris process as part of their household.
We are not sure how much of this has happened but
we would ask for your understanding and help by letting the office
know where this has occurred. The Agricola News is arriving in mailboxes
now, so we are beginning to uncover the problems.
The accuracy of the contact information is a priority
for us so we appreciate your help in keeping it accurate and current.
Thank you
Jim Goit
