Open House
2006
NSAC's annual Open House took place on Thursday July
27th. The Open House consisted of a day filled with sun, garden
tours, aquaculture demonstrations, quilting and hand-crafts, wagon
rides, Red Cross demonstrations, variety show with music and dancing,
Barbecue and much more!
In an e-mail written to NSAC by Grace Burtt-Dykstra,
she expressed her experience at Open House 2006. "On behalf
of myself, my husband and my grandchild Charlie, (five years old)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank NSAC for another
wonderful Open House. Charlie was keen to look through the microscopes
at the bugs - good and bad, he enjoyed petting the sheep and he
loved the hay wagon (we appreciated the ride!)."
Alumni, family, faculty, staff and special
guests attended the BBQ in the Alumni Gardens after the day’s
events and relaxed with some tasty food while catching up with
friends connected by
NSAC. Many alumni and their families stayed in town over the weekend
to visit with old friends, classmates and professors.
| Thank you to alumni, family and
friends who attended the event and made it so successful! |

NSAC Rock Garden Dedication
The NSAC Rock Garden has become one of the
University’s most
valued features on campus and is arguably the largest and most
diverse Rock Garden in the Maritimes.
 |
Extending over a half-acre (0.2 hectares) of
hillside, it brings a unique sense of diversity to the campus
grounds and a natural “green” space that can be
enjoyed by all. |
| The Rock Garden Dedication
took place on campus on Friday July 21st. Revealed was a
plaque that dedicated the NSAC
Rock Garden to Dr. Bernard Jackson. Dr. Jackson has been
instrumental in the designing, building and caring of the
beautiful garden. |

Department of Business and Social Science Welcomes Visiting Professor
Dr. Marthin G. Nanere is a visiting professor from the School of
Business, Latrobe University in Australia. Dr. Nanere arrived at
Nova Scotia Agricultural College on July 18th and will be spending
a six-month sabbatical with NSAC until January 2007.
While here, he will be working with various faculty in the Department
of Business and Social Sciences. Dr. Nanere's current research interests
include issues related to genetically modified products, channel
member relationships in the Victorian (i.e., Australia) fruit and
agriculture industry, community engagement, and agricultural productivity
measurement. At the Bendigo Campus of Latrobe, Dr. Nanere teaches
courses such as Introduction to Marketing, Marketing Research, and
Supply Chain Management.
Dr. Nanere has already settled in Truro, and is discovering many
beautiful sites and places in the town and province. For those keen
listeners on campus who noticed a heightened tempo and rhythm in
the open air music during NSAC's Open House on July 28th, Dr. Nanere
was there as guitarist, which is one of his favourite passions.
He is also an avid badminton player.

Quote: “NSAC is grounded in
hands-on learning experience and many research projects. The professors
here encourage students to think outside the box and do not just
go by what they learn, but observe that there may be other methods
to what you’re
studying. The professors and students who are at NSAC want to be
here. You can feel that.”
