Summer Hiring
It's time to advertise for positions you will have available this summer. Summer employment provides wonderful mutual benefits. Students need both the money and experience they can obtain from working at NSAC. You obviously benefit from the extra help that trained student assistance provides. Please send a copy of your job notice to Amanda LeBlanc at: leblana@gov.ns.ca CSU Human Resources, Cumming Hall, as the hiring process must be approved by Dr. Bernie MacDonald.
Many students are making inquiries now about the types of summer work that will be available. Please let Career Services know( rchapman@nsac.ca or 893-7895 ) over the next few weeks what is anticipated from your area for summer students this year.

As part of the department's focus on developing staff, through a competitive process at the executive level, I identified some acting opportunities to further that initiative. I am pleased to announce that Loretta Robichaud has accepted a new role as Acting Director, Programs and Business Risk Management, beginning immediately. Loretta's position, like Mike Johnson's recent appointment, will be for a for a one year term. Similar to Mike Johnson's new reassignment, Loretta's reassignment is part of our staff development initiative. More...

Wanted: Squash Players
Do you play squash and want to play with some other competitors? Are you tired of returning the same kinds of hits again and again? Do you want a fresh challenge?
We want to find out whether there is enough interest to start a squash ladder. For those who don't know, a squash ladder is a continuous, year-long, competition. Names would be posted in the Athletic Center, listed in order of ability. You would be able to contact and challenge other people on the ladder and the result of the game would determine who moves up or down the ladder.
Although it is set up as a competition, the real purpose is not to see who is the best, but to give you the chance to play other people with your level of skill.
If you are interested, or know anyone else who might be, please email Vilis Nams (vnams@nsac.ca).
What Students are Telling us about their NSAC Experience
NSAC participated in both the NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement) and CUSC (Canadian University Survey Consortium) surveys, for the first time in 2008 to gauge student opinion on their "NSAC Experience". Students are completing the NSSE 2009 survey right now and soon the year's CUSC survey will be out for students to, once again, rate their satisfaction with programs and services for students at NSAC. These surveys provide valuable opportunities for students to comment on their experiences at the university.
NSAC participates in these surveys so we can improve the experience future students will have. We are committed to ensuring students succeed academically while having a positive university experience.
As part of the communication of what we learned from our students last year highlights of the student satisfaction ratings will be featured in upcoming editions of E-Bulletin. If you would like more complete information from the two surveys or would like to arrange a presentation on the results to your office/unit contact Brian Crouse at the Enrollment Management Office (6729). Scholarship Spotlight
First Presentations of John Reginald (Reg) Moore Memorial Bursaries
In memory of J.R. (Reg) Moore who graduated from NSAC in 1947 and retired from a career with Farm Credit Canada, two $800 bursaries will be awarded to students from Colchester County, Nova Scotia, who have completed at least one year of study in any program. Selection will be based on financial need and sound academic performance. To be eligible students must be maintaining a minimum 70% in their cumulative studies. Dr. Bernie MacDonald, Co-President and Vice-President Administration, NSAC, is shown congratulating the first recipients of these bursaries: On right, Amanda denHollander, Stewiacke, NS, a 2nd year Veterinary Technology student; and Andrew Lynds, Truro, NS, a 2nd year Engineering student, on left.
Equestrian Team
NSAC's Equestrian team won the third consecutive Inter-University Equestrian Competition last weekend. The show was hosted by NSAC and was held at Reaching Strides Equestrian Centre, just outside Antigonish. Greenhawk sponsored the Champion prizes.
NSAC is undefeated this year. The team has actually only come in reserve champion once in team history! All of the other competitions they have attended they have been the champions over the last three years! The schools in attendance were NSAC, Acadia, SMU and St. FX, each team having between eight and 12 riders in divisions ranging from walk-trot up to advanced (open) level.
NSAC will be participating in a clinic given by Danica Ellis on the first of March after which they will be competing in events hosted by Acadia on March 8th (Rolling Hills Stables, Wolfville, NS) and by St. Mary's on March 14 (Creek View Stables, Antigonish, NS). St. FX is hosting a year end banquet following the St. Mary's competition. All are welcomed and encouraged to come out and support NSAC's team! The bigger the crowd the better -but dress warmly!
Shown in the photo are NSAC's winning team from last weekend: left to right - Janice Cameron, Megan Crouse, Jen McCurdy, Rebecca Clayton, Lindy Feltmate, Dara Pelkey-Field, Coach (top), Mary Lomas (bottom), Chantelle Penney, Lindsay Steele, Ass't Coach, Amanda Coggins, Suzanne Reid and Robyn Wyer.
