Founding Day
NSAC turns 104 on February 14th! Staff, faculty
and students are invited to come celebrate the university's
birthday on Friday, February 13th at 3:00 p.m. in the main
entrance of Cumming Hall. Cake and refreshments will be

National Accreditation of Environmental
Hort Program
We
are proud to announce that NSAC has been fully accredited
by the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) and
approved as a Certified Horticultural Technician integrated
educational facility. This allows students in the
environmental horticulture program to obtain a passport
from the CNLA that tracks success in training and testing
of horticultural skills. Students now have the opportunity
to graduate with internationally recognized credentials.
RefWorks and EndNote Web at NSAC
MacRae library subscribes to two reference manager tools;
RefWorks and EndNote Web. Both these web-based services
are designed to help students and researchers format bibliographies,
in-text citations, important references from online databases
and much more to help streamline your research.
RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager
that allows you to create your own personal database by
importing references from text files or online databases
and other various sources.
EndNote Web delivers tools to search online resources, save
ISI Web of Knowledge SM records directly to an online library,
collect and organize references and format citations and
footnotes or a bibliography.
Check out the library homepage at nsac.ca/library
to learn more about these two products.
2008 President's List

Last
night NSAC students were awarded for their high academic
achievements at the 2008 President's List. While 117 students
were named to the list, approximately 60 students were in
attendance at the event to receive their recognition. This
made it the highest attended President's List event in years.
Students enjoyed a humorous, yet serious presentation by
Dr. Kevin Sibley titled Metaphors for Living Life. Dr.
Sibley gave a compilation of short contemplative metaphors
for dealing with life’s ups and downs.
The Environment and Your Business
Everywhere you turn these days the environment and climate
change is talked about, but what does it mean for you, your
community, and your business? How can you take advantage
of the opportunities to increase your bottom line or develop
new technologies while helping protect the environment?
ACOA invites you to a morning information session on the
environment and economic development opportunities. More...

Contest to Find World-Changers
NSAC has launched a new contest to find the grassroots
leaders of tomorrow. The NSAC
Make a Difference Challenge is part of our
ongoing brand campaign, focused on connecting NSAC with
prospective students who value what we do - hands-on experience
that changes the world around us for the better. Students
in school, and 15 years or older, are eligible for nomination.
The nominations are posted on-line at our Embrace Your World
microsite so others can share each candidate's story and
successes. The successful candidate wins a new eco-friendly
laptop to help them spread the word about their good work.
Contest deadline is March 20. Do you see an opportunity
to promote this contest in your travels? If so, let
us know and we will provide you copies of the poster
and/or bookmark!
Hello from your Student Recruitment
Team!
As Student Recruitment Coordinator and Manager, I would
like to extend a thank you on behalf of Janet, Ashley and
myself for your continuing support of the Recruitment Team.
Over the past few years, the team saw an incredible momentum
build between faculty, staff and our department in efforts
to attract new students to NSAC.
As reported, we did see an increase in first year student
numbers for 2008 and already this year, a solid number of
pending applications for September 2009 and we can officially
say that our numbers are 15 percent higher again this year
than last! This is three consecutive years in a row where
we are seeing growth, while other post secondary institutions
are experiencing decline. This is a direct reflection of
the combined actions of all who help us recruit! Thank you!
