Flags at Half-Mast
Our flags have been lowered to half-mast to mark the passing of the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, former Governor General of Canada. Born in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Mr. LeBlanc became the first Governor General from the Maritimes in 1995. As Canada's longest-serving fisheries minister, Mr. LeBlanc helped establish Canada's 200-mile fishing limit and encouraged strong growth in the fishing industry during the late '70s and early '80s. Our flags will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of Mr. LeBlanc's funeral.
Volunteers Needed for Open House
Open House is our chance to give back to the community. Our community supports us year round through partnerships, sponsorships, interest and participation. Let’s show everyone exactly what we’re all about. Open House 2009 will be held on Thursday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event gives us a chance to have fun and show off all that we have to offer at NSAC. We need your help to make Open House 2009 a success. Anyone not involved in a display, who is willing to volunteer some time, please contact Sabrina at 893-7247 or by email.
All participation sheets for demonstrations, displays and activities are due ASAP. For anyone who did not receive or has misplaced their participation sheet, please

Increase in Contribution Rates, Public Service Superannuation Plan
The government is proceeding with the Public Service Superannuation Pension Plan (PSSP) contribution rate increase as announced earlier this year. The increase will be effective July 5th and the first payroll change will be implemented on the July 30th pay. This increase is needed to improve the financial health of the plan, which currently has a large funding shortfall. Additional financial measures may be needed at a later date. The specific title of Dr. France's presentation is In (Ecosystem) Service: Climate Change, Phenology, and the Building of Citizen Scientists. Safety and Security E-mail Address Change
The Safety and Security e-mail has been changed to safetyandsecurity@nsac.ca. This is to ensure that the e-mail is more efficient and that any requests, questions or concerns are answered promptly. Any non-urgent e-mails that you usually direct to a specific staff member should continue to be sent to that individual’s e-mail account.
Chartwells Food Service
Full cafeteria services will be starting up again on Sunday, June 28th for the remainder of the summer months. Please note that all meal hours will be posted at Jenkins Hall and may vary slightly as we meet the needs of the different conference groups we have here on campus. Please feel free to call ahead if you wish to confirm a meal service for your group 897-1952.
Everyone is also reminded that Jenkins Lounge is also open during the same meal periods for anyone wanting to just grab a coffee or bowl of soup for lunch instead of the full meal service offered in dining room. Catering services are always available. Please remember that a minimum 48 hours notice is required for any coffee breaks and small luncheons. All other functions should be ordered with a minimum of one week's notice.

Photo of the Week

NSAC’s Research Ethics Board (REB) honored Dr. Hendricus (Huddy) Van Wilgenburg at their June meeting earlier this week. Dr. Van Wilgenburg is leaving the REB after having served on the board for over nine years. The knowledge and perspective that Dr. Van Wilgenburg brought to the board have been invaluable tools in allowing the board to carry out its mandate and have greatly facilitated the activities of NSAC’s research community.
Shown here presenting Dr. Van Wilgenburg with a certificate of appreciation is Lauranne Sanderson, Chair of the REB.
