New Cardio Equipment at LAC
Faculty and Staff - would you like to go for a spin?
The Athletic Department has just acquired three (3) new Keiser Studio Spin Bikes (in the cardio room on the upper level of the Langille Athletic Centre) and we are extending an invitation for you to try them out. In addition, we have a new Elliptical Strider if you prefer the full body cardio option. Along with our lower level weight room equipment, we are now equipped with 6 bikes, 6 stair climbers, 3 ellipticals, 3 treadmills, and 2 rowers in the cardio room.
During the week Mar.9-13, faculty and staff are invited to come in and try the machine(s) of your choice free of charge. If you are interested in any of our membership packages beyond that period, please check our website or contact Kent Loughead for pricing information.
Procurement/Fiscal Year End Procedures 2008-2009
This is to advise of the deadlines set by the Department of Finance, Government Accounting Group, and Procurement Branch, for year end purchases which are to be charged to the current fiscal year.
February 10, 2009 is the final date for sending present fiscal year requisitions to Financial Services. A shortened tendering process may be used on low dollar value purchases to ensure purchases are made by fiscal year end. High value purchases over the thresholds of $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000 for goods, services and construction respectively, will require a full public tender process of 15 days. Please bear this in mind, along with appropriate delivery lead times and submit your requirements in February for any residual requirements for the current fiscal year. New requirements for 2009/2010 can be submitted for tendering prior to April 1, 2009. More...
Fundraising Efforts for Farm Equipment Museum
The existing Farm Equipment Museum building at the NS Provincial Exhibition grounds requires more space. This is necessary in order to properly display and protect the valuable artifacts which have grown in numbers over the last few years.
Fundraising efforts are underway to build an extension onto the existing museum. The goal is to have the new addition in place in time for the 2009 NS Provincial Exhibition.
If you are interested in supporting the museum expansion effort, donations can be sent to:

Budget Update
The 2009/10 budget process is well underway. Today’s economic
conditions are contributing to the challenges facing us as we engage in
this year’s budget planning activities.
It is the goal of government to present a balanced budget, which
increases the challenges facing us. Keeping expenses in check is a key
part of this budget decision-making process.
All government departments, agencies, boards and other funded
organization are being asked to work to find ways to keep spending down
or at least slow its growth. Some planned programs may have to be
deferred. Some existing programs may have to change. More...

Recruitment Update
Hello All!
As you know, University Day has been rescheduled to Monday March 9th. Thanks to all who have helped us in this effort! This week has allowed us to prepare a bit more, gather a few more registrations and communicate more effectively with our ambassadors. In all - it has turned out to be a great opportunity. We have over 150 registrants - 99% are in grade 12 and they are bringing their parents and supporters!
We've been happy to see some of our hard work come to fruition with the publishing of a few articles in Atlantic Holstein News, Pet Country Magazine, and Horse and Pony. Thank you to Fraser Nicholson, Lauranne Sanderson and Carollyn Crewe for managing those pieces.
This week we are heading out in a few directions as Janet and the Engineering team make their way to the Farm Mech Show and FCC Big Ideas conference. Janet will be meeting with the three Agriculture Certificate classes from PEI as well as several NB students.
Ashley and Heather Anne Grant are attending the Futureworx Inspirationworx Skills Development and Employment Expo, being held at the NSCC Truro Campus.
Important!
Some of the staff and faculty have received their first list of newly admitted students to follow up with. We've already congratulated and offered assistance to these students on behalf of recruitment and NSAC campus. It is critical that program advisors and department heads contact these students on a program level. This has been our strategy for several years now and is seems to be working :)
Until next time!
