Scholarship FAQ's
When marks are in the 80's, when will
I hear about an entrance scholarship?
Entrance scholarships are offered at the time of your application.
An entrance scholarship offer is guaranteed based on the first
semester or mid-term marks submitted with your application
for admission to all students planning to study full-time.
If my marks go up mid-term second semester, does this increase
my scholarship offer?
Yes, it could. Please arrange for your school through your
guidance counsellor to fax your mid-term report so that we
can re-calculate your scholarship average.
How is my scholarship offer determined?
An entrance scholarship to NSAC is not based on all of your
course work done at grade 12 level.
Your scholarship offer is based on the average of the required
courses for the program of study you are planning to take at
NSAC. The required courses vary by program. For example, though,
if you are coming in to do a B.Sc.(Agr.) or complete your Pre-Vet
requirements, the scholarship average is taken from your English,
your highest twelve level Math, two twelve level Sciences and
a fifth twelve level course.
How much can I expect to receive for an entrance scholarship?
$2,500 scholarships are awarded all students admitted with
averages in the required courses of 90% or greater
?Students admitted with averages in the required courses between
85% and 89% receive $1,500
?And $1,000 scholarships are awarded to all students with averages
from the required courses between 80% and 84%
How do my final marks in June affect my entrance scholarship?
Your final grade twelve transcript is required to finalize
the level of your entrance scholarship. If your marks in
June improve to bring your scholarship average up into the
next scholarship level, your scholarship will be increased.
If your marks drop bringing your scholarship average below
the level of your initial scholarship offer, your scholarship
value will remain the same.
Is an application required for an entrance scholarship?
An application is not required for the Entrance Scholarships
as outlined above. There are application based entrance scholarships
with both March and September deadlines.
Where can I get more information on other entrance
scholarships?
You can check out this site for further details on entrance
scholarships –
http://www.nsac.ns.ca/csa/entrance_scholarships_and_bursaries.asp
How do I receive the entrance scholarship?
Half of the scholarship is credited to your account in September
to be applied to your fall semester fees, and the remaining
half is credited in January to offset your winter semester
fees.
Do I still receive the second installment of the entrance
scholarship if I don’t return to studies in January?
No. The entrance scholarship is intended to assist students
with their education expenses. The second installment required
full-time study status both through the fall semester and in
the winter semester.
Is the scholarship renewable?
There are some entrance scholarship that are renewable but
the $1,000, $1,500 and $2,500 Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships
are tenable for one year only. There is not an average requirement
to receive the second semester’s installment. A number
of other scholarships are available for students to apply
to following the first year of study.
I don’t have an 80% average. Do I still qualify
for entrance scholarships?
There are a number of scholarships and bursaries available
to first year students for which having an 80% average is not
a high requirement. You are encouraged to inquire about these
other scholarships.
