Program Overview
If you like working with your hands in designing or building,
or you enjoy finding out how things work, consider the Engineering
Diploma program. This Associated Universities program is given
in conjunction with Dalhousie University. Once you complete
the program at NSAC you receive an Engineering Diploma and are
guaranteed admission into the third year of Dalhousie’s
Bachelor of Engineering. This is a terrific way to get two very
different learning experiences - earn your diploma at a small,
town university, and finish your degree at a large, urban university!
NSAC’s Engineering program offers a very unique method
of learning called Integrated Engineering. In fact, this is
the only program of its kind in Canada! In this teaching module
there is an emphasis on teamwork, integrated thinking and the
development of leadership skills. You will work in learning
communities and use mentors for guidance. By working on engineering-related
cases immediately, you find out what being an Engineer is like
right away. You don’t have to wait until your second year
to discover the world of Engineering, you start working on design
projects and problem solving in your first semester!
While at NSAC you choose an area in which to specialize, called
a discipline. Discipline options include: Biosystems (Agricultural),
Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical,
Metallurgical, and Mining. Don’t worry....you don’t
have to choose a discipline until you start your second year.
This gives you plenty of time to check out all the options,
talk with students and professors, and find the discipline that’s
right for you.
Course Work
Before specializing in different areas, all Engineering students
must take the same courses, some of which include:
- Design and Graphics
- Chemistry
- Calculus
- Physics
- Statics
- Electrical Circuits
- Differential Equations
- Probability and Statistics for Engineering
